Furnish your end of the world base for free

Summary of what the characters collected.

Need to furnish your end of the world base for free?
Here is what the characters got over three months by looking on the internet for free stuff. We assumed a 40% chance that any set of items would be available, other people often beat you to the good deals first. It is also important to point out that several characters with pic up trucks and free time were involved, along with Scott "Trucker" who has a big rig and could carry extra cargo back from far away spots.

It does not include the furniture the characters will either purchase or already own.

Game Log – Week 21.

Sunday July 22; While all the main stream official head lines talk about the riots going on in the USA and a few in other places too, the internet is full of reports about FBI raids on militia camps. Anonymous even hacks several major on line news sites to post video from the Oklahoma siege.

Most of the PCs and their friends finish moving out to the farm. Ranger Bob, RCMP officer Ray, Trucker Scott, and electrician Marco, all take steps to secure their homes and maintain their regular jobs. Herbalist Doreen continues to work at her business, which she has put up for sale.

At the farm, work on the compound proceeds in staggered shifts as people take frequent brakes to watch the news. In has become something of a running joke to refer to the place as the ‘camp’ never as the base or the compound or the fort. In the evening Yvan goes back into town to buy as much ammo as he can.

Monday July 23; Ranger Bob get a few of the crew to help him smuggle some Americans across the border. These are 4 families of prepper acquaintances of his, who often come to hunt in Canada. Once safely a hundred miles into the country they are dropped off and make their way to their chosen destinations.  This is the first of several such adventures.
Also this day Marco is laid off from his job, as his company just lost a major contract with an American firm, they must temporarily cut back staff. He goes a bit nuts.

Wednesday July 25; The L.A. riot part 2.
After the National Guard had seemed to bring things under control on Sunday, the violence flares up again.  The city is sectioned off into safe zones and danger zones.

At the farm, work on the electrical systems - including solar panels and wind turbines is finished.

Thursday July 26; China after making a public statement congratulating the USA for its swift use of military force to deal with civil unrest, prepares to invade Taiwan. The minor skirmish between US and Chinese forces in Iran, which had gone on since early June, are seen for what they are – a testing of China’s anti air technology and techniques.

Friday July 27; China attacks Taiwan. US demands that China back off, or face a formal declaration of way with in 24 hours. The news is flooded with commentary about the economic and military ramifications of the situation.
Meanwhile the Army conducts a sweep in force of the L.A. danger zones.
China claims it is using force to settle a domestic problem, just like the USA is doing.
The UN calls an emergency session to begin Monday.

Critical WSHTF Events

4 Day – Critical WSHTF Events – Game Related.

July 18;
A coordinated America wide round up of suspected domestic terrorists is launched by home Land Security. Most targets are in face leaders of the various protest movements, including the Occupy Organization, which had been planning a large event set for July 20. In Canada the RCMP pick up some suspects in co-operative raids, aimed at American trouble makers operating in Canada.

There is no news coverage of this event in main stream media.

Underground internet news reports the mass arrests of protest organizers. At the same time the many prepper & survivalist web sites recommend going into hiding now!

The majority of people have no idea of these events.

July 20;
The big protest rallies ( aimed at corporate and government corruption ) go ahead anyhow. Many of the protesters are concerned about the disappearance of their leaders, and guess correctly what has happened, never the less they are determined to stand up for their beliefs. The sneaky pre-emptive arrests are just one more proof that the government is out of control.

At the rallies many of the Militia Groups turn up to ‘keep peace and guarantee free speech’. They are armed and well organized, a serious concern for authorities.

At noon, just as the big speeches are about to start, the Police announce that the gathering is illegal and people must go home. Arguing starts, then soon things turn violent. The police move to brake up the mob and make arrests. The militia step in to any situation where it seems police are using too much force.

“Back off or we will open fire.” is said by both police and militia.

Eventually the shooting does start. By night fall the riots are in full swing.

In local Canadian events;
The protests are broken up with only some fights; there are injuries and arrests but no organized armed resistance to police actions.  Except in Montreal, where there is serious unarmed resistance by the students who had been protesting for months over education issues.

July 21; first major battle of the new US civil war

FBI agents go to arrest a militia group who was involved in yesterday’s riot at their base near Oklahoma. They are met with well armed and organized resistance. After a few shots are exchanged, the FBI pulls back and the National Guard are called in.

The National Guard unit is forced to pull back when the militia uses mortars. They set up a wide perimeter and lay siege to the compound. The entire event is recorded by the militia and sent out by a secure feed to the hacker group Anonymous. It is streamed live to some underground wed sites.

In late afternoon the militia negotiates the ‘surrender’ of several members, mostly women and young children. However quite a few youths and women remain in the compound, actively taking roles in the fight.

During the night an air raid flattens the camp.

Note – this was not the only raid made by FBI and HLS against a militia base this day, but it turns out to be the most dramatic and well documented. Many others drag on with out the use of an air strike.

July 22;

The entire event, which was filmed by several members of the militia, is posted on many web sites by Anonymous. In both full unedited long clips and shorter highlight clips. Despite FBI attempts to take down the video, it keeps popping up. It even appears on the web sites of several major news networks, even though they did not put it up.

------------------------------

Not just about the militia battle.

Also on July 21 were several major riots in the USA. They got a lot more media coverage than the militia situation. Some critics speculate that the government was hopping to eliminate all organized militia groups while public attention was focused on the riots.

“For the love of God, no matter how pissed off you are at the government and corporations, at the rich or their flunkies, don’t burn down your own neighborhood.” This bit of good advice by an opinionated film maker was followed with; “Go to where ‘The Man’ lives and burn down his house, his bank, his yacht, go to Beverly Hills.”

A huge mob from South Central L.A. Compton and Watts did exactly that. They came in two waves; the first driving in to terrorize the wealthy neighborhoods, the second marching in to loot and burn. Police responded in force, but were confronted by well armed, if disorganized, gangs of armed youths.

Game Log - down to z-day

Week 14 – International events.
June 03; an explosion at Iran’s nuclear research facility results in several deaths. They accuse USA / Israel of sabotage.
June 04; Iran demands a UN inquest into the matter, accusing USA of terrorist acts.
June 05; China formally announces its ‘defend the victim’ policy. In specific if the USA attacks any nation with out UN approval, China will step in to protect civilian centers.

As conflict in the Middle East looms, oil prices climb. Local gas = $2 / L.

Week 15 – Construction of farm fort is about 3 days behind schedule, no major problems or injuries.  Rush on supply buying this week.
June 15; Iran closes the Strait of Hormuz, thus blocking access to most of the region’s oil export ports. USA calls this move a violation of international free shipping rights.
June 16; oil prices climb sharply, this is the ‘mini shock’ the Prof. talked about.

Local events; people rush off to fill up their cars before the gas price hits $3 / L.

Weak 16 – June 18, Monday morning finds all prices have gone up. Facing increased costs in transport, most stores raised their prices, even on items already on the shelves. This caused quite a bit of anger among consumers.  In the USA many cities experience small riots as people confront the unfair price hikes.

In Ottawa the PM announces a special meeting to consider the situation. At the end of the week an action play will be put in place. It may involve wage and price controls.
In Washington the President tells people not to worry, there is no real shortage of oil, the US can get all it needs from its friends Canada and Mexico.

The ACRO group faces an extra $5000 of shipping costs on items already ordered.

June 20; a ship runs Iran’s blockade line. Iran fires missiles at it. USA returns fire at the missile stations, then sends in a rescue team to help the sinking ship.
June 21; China sends a protection force to Iran.

Local events; the price of gas comes down to $ 2.80 / L, after a high of $ 3.50 / L.

Week 17 – June 26, Tuesday inspection of farm-fort by Provincial planning dep.
All prices are 20% higher than they were before the ‘mini shock’

Week 18 - Construction of farm fort is about 5 days behind schedule.

Week 19 – July 09; tip from group’s RCMP insider that a unit was assigned to look into the farm-fort. They are just curious, taking a friendly look, with no specific agenda.
July 13; inspection of electrician to check all the wiring and power systems.

Week 20 – International events
July 18; underground news reports mass arrests of protest organizers, before the big rally. Many prepper web sites recommend going into hiding now!
July 20; big protest rallies go ahead anyhow, many in US have militia involvement to ‘keep peace and guarantee free speech’ Things turn violent, by night fall riots brake out.

In local events; the protest is broken up with only a small fight, no serious injuries.

July 21; first major battle of the new US civil war
FBI go to arrest militia group who was involved in yesterday’s riot at their base near Oklahoma. They are met with well armed and organized resistance. The National Guard are called in, but forced to pull back when the militia uses mortars. During the night an air raid flattens the camp. The entire event was sent out over the net, despite attempts to shut down the signal.

Improved Fort Plan

Here we have several additions to the basic design of the main floor of the Farm-Fort.
1. The dedicated military box Medical OR is added onto the medical bay.
2. The work shops along the front now have 7 double box units.
3. The right side storage area now has 5 double box units.
4. The left side storage and animal medical 40ft boxes are doubled.
5. The barn area is expanded with 2 stall boxes and 2 storage boxes.
6. An armory, firing range, and weapons storage unit is added to the back.
7. Also at the back is the physical fitness center, made from 5 boxes.
8. Between the Armory and the Gym is the main utility room.

The entire outer ring will be buried in a mound of dirt, roughly following the irregular shape given by the boxes. The hope is that a casual outside observer (even one from the air) will not realize the size and number of the buildings in the outer ring. The dirt will also act as insulation for the boxes.

Game Log -May-

First week of May the group incorporates itself as ACRO “Atlantic Community Research Organization” The next week they put together several proposals for government research grants. Each project is a variant on the alternative habitation technology theme. By the end of the month two projects get funding, totalling $100,000.

Several of the PCs move out to the farm house, including Brown, Doc & Grunt.

Training in martial arts and fire arms is shifted to the week ends.

On May 12, the Prof. sends out a “Good bye and good luck” e-mail.

Doreen puts her business and building up for sale.

Scott Trucker acquires a tanker of gas, 9,000 gallons of diesel.

Brown buys a tractor for the farm.

Kellyanna & Yvan go to farm animal exhibition to look for live stock.

On May 29 there is a violent clash between police and protesters in Montreal.
